Inferred Probability
When breaking down a fight (or handicapping any sport, really), you should start by converting the odds into probability. You may quickly convert all odds to implied probabilities in this table.
The Record of each fighter
You can determine a fighter’s skill level by looking at how they performed versus common/similar opponents or against high-caliber opponents.
Facts and Figures to Know
Having said that, the following information is crucial for handicappers to consider:
- Punches delivered/landed
- Per round jabs
- Punches with strength per round
These three statistics sound straightforward, and they are, but they are also crucial in deciding who will win a bout, especially if it goes to the judges.
You have a better chance of, at the very least, appearing to be winning the fight if you are the busier combatant. The same is true if you are the combatant firing more powerful shots that connect.
Judging System
Rounds typically end 10-9. However, if a combatant is knocked to the ground, they almost always forfeit a point. A fighter may also lose a point for a foul (low blow, headbutt, etc.), however warnings are typically given out before points are taken away. Then, there is a chance of 10-8 rounds.
